Steel ulu knife with ergonomic wooden handle and solid wood cutting board sculpted by Master Craftsman Harry Tomlinson in his workshop. Donated by Honorary Rotarian Harry Tomlinson. Value: $200 Master craftsman Harry Tomlinson has been a builder all his life. On a trip to Alaska, he purchased a Ulu knife and board and later began crafting ulu sets in his workshop. The ulu knife is rooted in Arctic indigenous cultures, particularly the Inuit and Yupik peoples, who have used the crescent-shaped tool for over 4,000 years. Originally made from bone, antler, or stone, the Ulu was an essential, all-purpose tool for tasks like skinning animals, and sewing, with its design passing down ancestral knowledge and symbolic meaning through generations. Today, modern versions are made of steel and are still used in kitchens, while the Ulu also holds significant cultural importance as a symbol of identity and accomplishment.
